There are many ways of using essential oils. Each of Young Living’s oils are labeled as either Topical/Aromatic. There is also an entire line of Young Living oils called Vitality that can be used as dietary or internally ingested! Here is some information on how you can start using your oils:
Diffusing oils can help purify the air and neutralize the air around you from mildew, smoke, and other odors. Diffusing can also help to protect you and your family from harmful things we breathe and help support mood regulation.
To inhale essential oils, try these options:
- Place 2-3 drops in your palm and rub you hands clockwise together- this helps activate the molecules! Cup your hands together over your nose and inhale deeply. Enjoy 🙂
- Add several drops to a bowl of hot water (hot but no boiling please!). Inhale the vapors that rise from the bowl. For an added benefit, place a toll over your head to increase the intensity of the vapors!
- Apply a few drops to a cotton ball, tissue, your scarf, your hairbrush, or wearable diffuser necklace and inhale periodically. Enjoy!

Direct application onto the skin is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to use essential oils. Topical use can be highly effective as the oils can easily pass through lipid membranes of cell walls penetrating cells and dispersing through the body in a matter of minutes! The best places to put them in my opinion? Definitely the neck, over the heart, and the bottom of the feet. The bottom of the feet are full of nerve endings and large pores allowing for faster absorption of the oils.
TIP: always test the oils on a small area of skin first. As the oils are so pure- they can have different effects on different skin sensitivity levels. Make sure you do what is right for you!
If you don’t want to use the pure oil topically- you can always use a carrier oil! Carrier oils extend oils when applied to a larger area and can also help decrease any skin irritation you may experience. Carrier oils should always be used for children. My favorite carrier oil is coconut oil and vitamin e oil. Other possibilities include grapes oil, sweet almond oil and even good ‘ole olive oil.
